How do I Care for my New Sod? SPRING Mowing: Mow ½” to 2” with rotary mower with sharp blades. Bagging preferred, but not necessary. Mow every 4 to 7 days depending on desired height and desired look. Watering: Water thoroughly every 3 days with at least 1” of water. Once turf is established, less water might be required. Weather conditions will dictate the amount and frequency of watering. Fertilizer: Apply after danger of frost with weed and feed with Atrazine to control Annual weeds. SUMMER Mowing: Mow ½” to 2” with rotary mower with sharp blades. Bagging preferred, but not necessary. Mow every 4 to 7 days depending on desired height and desired look. Watering: Water thoroughly every 3 days with at least 1” of water. Once turf is established, less water might be required. Weather conditions will dictate the amount and frequency of watering. Be certain that your new lawn has enough moisture to survive hot, dry, or windy periods. Water areas near buildings more often where reflected heat dries the turf. Fertilizer: Can fertilize with well balanced fertilizer every 3 to 4 weeks to keep the desired color. Please note too much nitrogen can cause excessive thatch build-up. FALL Mowing: Mow ½” to 1 ½”. Try to keep height as low as possible to ensure proper green-up the following spring. Mow every 10 to 14 days as needed. Watering: Water thoroughly every 5 to 7 days or as needed. Be careful not to over water during this time. Fertilizer: Winterize or liming may be required, depending on soil analysis. WINTER Mowing: Mow ½” to 1 ½”, as needed. Try to keep height as low as possible to ensure proper green-up the following spring.Watering: Water as needed. Be careful not to over water during this time. CAUTION!
